Quilty! Or Am I...

I am one of those people that feels guilty, even when I've done nothing wrong.

I'm the gal that goes through airport security and feels like I am going to get caught, even though I have nothing to hide.

I'm that gal that goes through international customs holding my breath,
Even though I know I'm not carry an illegal animal or anything of its kind.

Story of how I felt guilty today.

Even though I was the ONE in charge.

Case Scenario:
I hired my presh little neighbor, Meg, to take my 'lil Peanut to her dance class.
Because my knuckle-head has track meets on her dancing days.
But this day...
I happen to have a group consultation with the magnificent duos:

That's Jenni from storyofmylifetheblog~ can you see the rest of us down there~
She's a super sweetheart by the way!

So, I had to leave the knuckle-heads track meet early to make it back for this fab get-together.
I was so early getting back, that I didn't even need my presh Meg to drive my Peanut.
But...Hey...Look Here Jack...

PERFECT
OPPORTUNITY
TO
GET
SOME
S@#T
DONE!
MY MOTHER IS GOING TO KILL ME FOR THAT ONE

The whole drive back from the meet I am thinking...

 I  might get caught.

The timing is so close, these chicks might see me driving in town.
I will be incognito...slip in here...slip out the back here.
I happen to be at the stop light and see my presh Meg's car with my cutie patootie Peanut.
Great they don't see me...

Whew...
Feeling like I need to hide...WHY?
Coast is clear, head to the neighborhood.
Make a left...my street...Yay...Well hello Mr. Presh Meg's Dad!
ARGH...he might tell on me!

I AM A GROWN A@S WOMAN
really gonna be in trouble now
WHY DO I FEEL THE NEED TO HIDE MY WHERE ABOUTS
~BECAUSE~
I AM ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE THAT FEELS QUILTY
FOR NO REASON
WHEN I HAVE DONE  NOTHING WRONG!

Why is it?
That some of us have that occasional feeling of quilt.

Is it because gals like me pick up on other people's emotions, we're more sensitive?
We feel others expect a lot from us?
Is it because chicks like me don't want to disappoint anyone?
Is it because we are such perfectionist that if we fail, or make a mistake, we feel quilt over letting ourselves down?
Is it the voice of our conscience?

Christopher R. Edgar wrote an interesting article on guilt.
www.ru.org/personal-development/guilt-as-a-natural-body-function.html

He writes, "I suggest its best to see feelings of guilt as a routine part of the circadian rhythm-our bodies' daily cycle-much like fatigue and hunger.  If we view guilt as simply a natural part of our day-to-day experience, rather than shaming ourselves for feeling it or trying to fight it off, we can diminish the suffering it tends to cause."

Also, he explains the interpretation of guilt causes us to suffer, while our interpretation of hunger does not.  Therefore, view it as a routine bodily function.  That guilt rises and falls certain times of the day.

If you belong to the 'I guilt myself' club, this is a must read article.
I have a better understanding about myself now.
No more feelings of being 'caught' or 'in trouble' for me anymore!
Because I know it's the rhythm of my body.

  2. I am the same way - guilty when there is nothing to be guilty about. I love the pug with the bank robber mask - he IS guilty for sure!

  3. Thank you Fifi!
Lindsey, it's a curse. I thought the article was interesting, never thought of that point of view. And Pugs are always so darn cute.

  4. I totally needed this!! I thought I was the only person in the world who feels guilt for no reason! I'm totally the girl at the airport, or the bank, or WHEREVER hoping not to get caught... even though I've done NOTHING! I would never be able to get away with robbery or murder (I sound like a creeper now) because the crime would be written all over my face!
